Many of you will have seen in the recent motoring press that the theft of Classic and Vintage cars is growing at a huge rate. The whole car may not be of great value to the thieves as so many of the cars are instantly recognisable, it is the parts that attract the money, as the sum of the parts can in some cases can easily exceed the value of the cars. To us it is the whole car that is important and securing our cars is vital, without them we would be out of business. You will all know what DNA is and the fact that it is unique; well there is now a DNA that can be applied to our cars which is also unique.
Though the NAWCP’s affiliation with the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) we are able to pass on to our members the opportunity to acquire this unique DNA for your cars. We would suggest that you don’t use it to just mark the chassis and or body but add it to the engine, starter and dynamo, gearbox, back axle, Dash panel instruments; everywhere you can think of until you run out of the DNA. It is invisible to the naked eye and can only be seen under ultraviolet light. A suggestion would be to your wife, friend or whoever you trust to photograph exactly where and when you apply the DNA fluid as you do it, that way if the worst ever happens you can give the Police a record of exactly where you have applied it. By the way the kit comes with discrete stickers warning potential thieves that the car is DNA coded.
We have approached our insurance consultant Peter James who will consult with the underwriters to see if this security system will help reduce your premiums for NAWCP members in the future. We will keep you informed as to the outcome.
